Sabrage is the technique for opening a champagne bottle with a saber. This technique became popular in France after the French Revolution. The saber was the tool of choice for Napoleon’s fearsome cavalry and the spectacular victories across Europe gave them plenty to celebrate.
An experienced sommelier can open a bottle with very little loss of champagne. The cork and collar of the bottle are removed with a swift and accurate action, whereby the sword is slid down the neck of the bottle.
The Due Cigni Sommelier’s Champagne Sabre Bullae is a beautiful sabre produced in Maniago in North Eastern Italy. Renowned worldwide for it’s production of high quality steel cutlery this champagne sabre lives up to the reputation. This scaled down version of the traditional champagne sabre makes it lighter and easier to yield than it’s larger brothers.
The blade is of 12C27 stainless steel, and the handle is of ebony.
